                                 Enduring Gift
Many times and often without realizing we are offering things, we are giving away ourselves, we are giving gifts, such is the case of the beautiful gift that my friend Beatriz Guerrero gave me one day in 1982.

Beatriz liked to paint in watercolor, and one day she invited me to try it, with their own brushes and under his direction I painted my first watercolor, this enduring gift will stay with me until the end; this gift has given me satisfaction for hours, has been my escape and went on to become my passion.

Upon returning from Colombia, I wrote an article titled "A tribute to my friends" and Murphy's Law, someone always has to be left out, and this time was Beatriz, although I was always thinking of doing a watercolor and do a checkup for her love, her friendship and above all for her beautiful gift, but procrastination is a terrible habit, Beatriz is gone and I didn’t let her know what she meant in my life.

I think the posthumous tributes are useless, but as this blog is my space I can offer a watercolor to Beatrice.

I want to thank all those who helped me to pray for her. Beatrice is gone, but I'm sure that our prayers and blessings helped her spirit to find its way to light.

I personally believe that prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have and I want to thank everyone for raise a blessing for her.

In this train called life, all of us come and go on and off at the right time. Sep 25, 2010 Beatriz Guerrero went off the train.

This goodbye disturbs me a lot, I know I will not see her again, but I'm glad to have shared his joy, his laughter, his integrity and love.

Torso: Oleo 16x24 inch
Cornucopia: Oleo  18x24 inch
Hacia la Luz: Oleo  16x20 inch
Turbante Blanco: Oleo 12x14 inch

My Paint My Passion

I have learned that when a hobby becomes a passion then there is no way out but to know it, taste it, conquer it, and own it.

So, I'm in the task of knowing the color, form, and light which gives me unknown joy and drives me to create and be at peace with my surroundings and myself.
Auto –Biography

I was born in Colombia. Expressing myself in color is a imperious need; My first cows were purple, I drew my first profile when I was 8 years old.

I was told that my only responsibility was to study and “become somebody” become an artist wasn’t a possibility. Therefore in 1984 I obtained a bachelor degree on science, but this soul of mine was yearning for express herself in color.

In 1985, Beatriz Guerrero, a friend of mine introduced me into watercolor.

1987, I took some drawing classes with

the master Adolfo Alban.

1989, I came to USA, got marry and have 2 children. I validated my career and in 1997 I have a bachelor degree as Medical Technologist from Newton Wellesley Hospital.

For years I worked 40 hour per week, run a family and on Sunday, at 6 am, when everybody was asleep; I used to paint at my kitchen table and had picked everything up for breakfast.

In 2003, I took a watercolor class at the Art Museum of Worcester, the same year I drew my first official portrait following instructions from a Milford’s library book; since then I have been copying from photos, reading, searching for answers, painting  at my basement.

2008, I took my first official oil class with Ms. K. Herbert from Worcester.

2009 I immersed myself into painting and I am content with the result.

Since I do not have a formal education in art I still have tons of questions, I lead myself into projects that seem too complicated for my level of knowledge but playing, searching for answers, letting my inner artist to guide me, I am here today and I know that practicing would get me the skills I longing for.

Last June, 2010 I learned that the library offered classes in oil painting; this group of artists is very friendly, interesting and eager to learn. Salvador Ferreira, the teacher plays a great job sharing his knowledge and his sense humor. This group accepted me unconditionally, I feel fortunate to  had been  able to display my work with  21 more artists the past Saturday 22, 2010 at the Milford Library.

My blog and my silence

When someone suggested one day I do a blog, I had no idea what he was talking about. My first question was "What do I put there? How do I blog? I went to google, I wrote Blogger and twinkling eyes had a space to write what ever came to the head.

Maintaining a blog is a constructive and interesting experience it is a challenge from any angle you look at it:

• the time to be invested in, sometimes the muse is far away and we can’t find a subject to write about, even worst, seem that we are unable to even put two words together,

• It is also a good way to keep your language alive, to enforce the memory for those words that sometimes are so evasive, it is a good way to keep Alzheimer's away.

• It is a way to reach other people, to know another’s people thought.

• It is also a way to make money, this part I have not found the trick yet, maybe some day I find someone to teach me that, I would like to put more knick-knacks to my blog, but my friends at school say "the technology rams us.

• It is a way to express ourselves without having to go through the anguish of facing an audience.

• It is a way to lose the fear of speaking, after all, one is exposing his/her ideas, her taste, to anyone who wants to read them.

• It is a way to not to remain lost in obscurity, lost in the maelstrom of the technology, feeling neglected at the “old peoples” corner.

• A blog is a form of freedom, a form of expression, it is a path filled with a myriad of twists, surprises, riddles, experiences, and growth.

To my friends who follow me without compromise, I apologize for the silence, but there are times in life we face situations that are not expected as was the case of my painting.

My painting has become a passion and I stuck my head between brushes, my oils and my canvas. I have the imperative need to learn this art, to penetrate the secrets of color and form, copy the air’s watercolor , copy the essence of the flower, the subtlety of a caress, the freshness of the dew, the mystery of the night, and the enigma of a smile.

Since I have no formal art education, I spend many hours reading, trying to find answers and solutions to the problems I face, such as what is the appropriate color to achieve that shade is some skin color? What colors should I use on my palette so that there is harmony? Are the eyes painted as circles or ovals? What is the proper angle for that movement? And so, I have many questions as touch in my work, but I'm happy, I have difficultly achieving the effect I want, but when I do it, I dance and turn happy as a girl letting to fly in the wind the ribbon that bound her hair.

This is the reason for my silence.
